Familiars Creative Co. was founded by two individuals with a shared belief: that design is more than just visuals — it’s a way of honouring people’s stories. Rooted in a love for connection and creative craftsmanship, we came together to build a studio that blends intuition, intention, and aesthetic clarity.
We specialise in handcrafted, timeless, and emotionally resonant design — from branding and web to custom illustration and packaging. But at the heart of what we do is something simpler: helping passionate people see themselves more clearly in the work they put into the world.

Lara Steenkamp
Co-Founder & Creative Lead
I'm a self-taught designer and illustrator based in South Africa, with a love for storytelling, symbolism, and thoughtful design. I began creating under Lara the Creative ZA, where I started to explore my style and connect with people who wanted branding that felt honest and intentional.
Now, through Familiars Creative Co, I work with like-minded brands to shape visual identities that are meaningful, grounded, and true to who they are. My approach is intuitive, collaborative, and rooted in care — because I believe great design starts with real connection.
Jay Selgert
Co-Founder & Designer
I'm a graphic and packaging designer based in Rotterdam. I first discovered graphic design through my love for illustration, which eventually led me to study at Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam. Alongside my formal training, I’ve continued to grow as a self-taught illustrator, blending both worlds in my creative work.
I’m drawn to design that feels personal, purposeful, and full of character — work that brings ideas to life in a way that feels true to the people behind them. I started creating to explore my own style and connect with others who care about thoughtful, creative expression. Today, I collaborate with Lara and our clients to shape design solutions that are intentional, engaging, and uniquely theirs.
